Where to eat in Prince Edward Island?

A vacation just wouldn’t feel complete without eating great food. It’s that moment of a trip where you’re sitting on a deck, or in a beautiful restaurant, enjoying sumptuous delights that you truly feel like you get to relax.

To make sure you have an amazing Prince Edward Island vacation our Target Tours Atlantic office staff shared their favorite PEI food spots and what dish you can’t go wrong with.

Merchantman

John Dunphy – President / Co-founder

Meal: Pan Friend Haddock with cherry tomato chutney (with side of baby potatoes): $18 CAD (2018)

The Merchantman is perfect for lunch or dinner. Not too stuffy but not too casual either. This restaurant is ideal for a group to enjoy a drink and great food. Everyone will find something they like on this menu! In the summer they triple the dining space with a patio out front and  “Merchantman Next Door” which is a second patio with a limited menu.

Restaurant Address: 23 Queen Street Charlottetown, PE

Churchill Arms

Katie Dorgan – Tour Coordinator for Atlantic Canada

Meal: Butter Chicken half rice half homemade fries: $14.45 CAD for the lunch size: $17.45 for the full size (2018)

This British style pub is an Island local favorite. Some things to know: they don’t take reservations and if you go on a Wednesday expect to wait because it’s half-off curry night starting at 5:00 pm and there WILL be a line. The servers are friendly and the place is always bustling. While PEI isn’t known for its curry what they make here is definitely worth writing home about!

Blue Mussel Cafe

Laura MacEwen – Tour Coordinator

Meal: Seafood chowder: $11 CAD (2018)

This is another location where you should be prepared to wait. The upside is that you’re in the charming town of North Rustico and wandering around the area while waiting for your table is actually sort of lovely. They provide beepers so you know to come back when your table is ready but don’t be surprised if you have to wait at least 45 mins to get in. When you do though the food totally makes it worth it. If you’re a seafood lover this place should rank very high on your list.

Piatto Pizzeria & Enoteca

Justin MacPhee – Tour Planner

Meal: Dolce e Fumoso (Roasted garlic cream base, chili  flakes, smoked mozzarella,
crispy prosciutto, finished with a drizzle of honey + chopped parsley) $17 CAD (2018)

If you’re touring Atlantic Canada you’ll find a few Piattos around and every one of them is just as amazing as the last. This isn’t your typical North American pizza though, this is your authentic-Neapolitan-style-cooked-in-the-proper-oven-with-the-proper-ingredients pizza. They also use some particularly amazing olive oil for dipping from a local supplier called Liquid Gold. It’s not just pizza though! Dying for a bone dry cappuccino or some really great Italian wine? Head to Piattos.

Restaurant Address: 45 Queen Street, Charlottetown, PE

Buono Mangia

Lynn Dunphy – Co-founder / Accountant

Meal: Fettuccine Carbonara $22.95 (2018)

Is having two Italian style restaurants on this list too many? “No way!” is what you’ll say if you’re fortunate enough to try them both. While Piatto was all about Pizza, Buono Mangia is where to go for pasta lovers. All their ingredients are natural, fresh, and sourced locally which makes everything just that much yummier. Even the pasta is made by hand. The atmosphere is warm and inviting which makes it a great place to relax with friends.

PEI Preserve Company

Jacqueline Skinner –  Operations Manager

Meal: Raspberry Cream Cheese Pie: $5.99 CAD (2017)

You simply must get yourself out to New Glasgow when you visit PEI. You would be doing a disservice to yourself, and frankly the Island, if you should miss it. The PEI Preserve Company is a staple stop on many of our North Shore tours and with very good reason. When we do our 7 hour tour we always suggest the PEI Preserve Company as the lunch stop. The view is amazing, the food is comforting, the tea sublime, and the dessert… well let me tell you about the dessert.

It is not unusual for folks to buy an entire Raspberry Cream Cheese Pie to go after their meal (which you can easily do by the way). One slice just never seems like enough. The menu describes it as ” just like standing in the middle of a field of raspberries and eating to your heart’s content!”. Well that just sums it up nicely!
